a turnkey solution for a problem site
A former gasworks in close proximity to nearby residents had remained vacant for 17 years. The site presented ownership, contamination, waste management, recycling and design issues.
Star Street was a contaminated and derelict site, the subject of 17 years of unsuccessful planning applications and widely thought to be unworkable by other developers. Whilst remaining in keeping with the local vernacular of predominantly one and two storey buildings, our design optimised land use on the 1 acre site to produce a development of 76 units; some 145% over previous planning submissions.
Intelligent design and specialist knowledge of contaminated land regeneration schemes, coupled with a commitment to make the project work enabled Anderson Design & Build to realise an opportunity where others could not.
Community engagement, traffic management, construction waste recycling and provision of local infrastructure led to the Considerate Constructor Award for Constable Homes.
The project illustrates the tenacity and vision of the team involved and is proof that opportunities are available for those with the imagination and the skills to tackle contaminated land regeneration schemes.
