cost effective remediation and groundworks solution for problem site

Located adjacent to existing residential property and Network Rail land, Brentwood Gasworks was sold to Crest Nicholson by the National Grid.

Site investigations revealed the presence of elevated concentrations of contaminants and substantial in-ground obstructions that could have constrained the development. Other issues included an infestation of Japanese knotweed and significant ecology issues including badgers, newts and reptiles.

Our project managers called on the core skills of the Group's in-house companies to provide a sustainable solution for the scheme. The integrated groundworks package up to DPC included site remediation, groundworks, structural & civil design and infrastructure associated with all off site improvement works. This included:

  • A mitigation strategy to deal with the ecology issues.

  • Remediation works including cut and fill operations that eliminated the risk of cross contamination.

  • Ground modelling that reduced build costs by ensuring that no arisings required offsite disposal.

  • Groundworks and an infrastructure design that allowed for the quick release of product, facilitating early sales and occupations.
